Announced during the PS State of Play, the Norse-inspired Japanese RPG Valkyrie Elysium will be launching on two separate dates for different platforms. It will launch on September 9, 2022 for the PS4 and PS5, then on November 11, 2022 for the PC. This confirms the release dates leaked earlier this week. You can check out the trailer below, which shows the schedules.
As with the original Valkyrie Profile, Valkyrie Elysium tells the story of a lone valkyrie who was sent by Odin the All-Father to save the world from an apocalypse. She must also gather heroes, called Einherjar, to aid her quest. Interestingly, “Elysium” is a place in the Greek afterlife, not the Norse. Valkyrie Profile is famous for creating imaginative worlds—perhaps we will see a crossover of pantheons in this game?
Unlike previous entries, Valkyrie Elysium will no longer be turn-based. Instead, it’s an action RPG akin to Nier: Automata, while introducing a new “Soul Chain” high-speed combo system, a "brand new real-time action combat system that rewards both fast reactions and strategic thinking." You can perform powerful techniques by using Divine Arts, which are fueled by filling your Arts Gauge. You may still summon Einherjars and they will provide you elemental bonuses during combat. You will also be fighting to an epic score by veteran composer Motoi Sakuraba.
Those who are getting the Deluxe Digital Edition game for the Playstation 4 or 5 get a bonus game: the new Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, which is a PSP port of the original Valkyrie Profile. Sadly, those who get the PC version will not receive this game. Instead, you will get a special sword “Svartaljr” and three wallpapers.
Valkyrie Elysium launches on September 9 for PlayStation and November 11 for PC via Steam. As early as now, you can pre-order a Valkyrie Elysium PS5 key with our comparator.
