Bandai Namco Europe has revealed a new trailer for the upcoming action-adventure game Unknown 9: Awakening. This video highlights that Unknown 9: Awakening will feature an expanded universe with podcasts, web series, and even comics that explore the stories of secondary characters from the game. These contents are directly linked to Reflector Entertainment's game and are mostly available for free. They spread across the internet and touch various entertainment areas, focusing on enriching the game's lore.
The first issue of the comic series Unknown 9: Torment introduces Jaden Crowe, a troubled young man who embarks on a challenging adventure. Meanwhile, the debut season of the podcast Unknown 9: Out of Sight follows paranormal investigators searching for ordinary people who possess knowledge of the Unknown. At the same time, the first two parts of the Genesis book trilogy by Layton Green tell the story of a young astrophysicist who sets out to uncover the truth behind her mentor's murder. Finally, the upcoming web series Unknown 9: Passage and Unknown 9: The Taylor Files will delve deeper into the Unknown.
The level of care and dedication that both the developer and publisher are putting into Unknown 9: Awakening is almost unprecedented for a new IP, but it shows their confidence in the game's story and lore. Unknown 9: Awakening was announced in March this year, with an estimated release on October 18th. The game stars Haroona, a Quaestor born with the ability to venture into a mysterious dimension that overlaps with our own, known as the Umbral.
In her quest for powerful secret knowledge, Haroona will learn to master her unique connection with the Umbral, allowing her to channel its powers into our world. However, this power does not go unnoticed, and Haroona quickly becomes a target of the Ascendants, a faction that seeks to use the Umbral to alter the course of human history. Haroona will be portrayed by Anya Chalotra, the actress known for playing Yennefer in Netflix's The Witcher series.
Reflector Entertainment was founded in Montreal in 2016 and was acquired by Bandai Namco Europe in 2020. So far, Reflector hasn't released any original games, and Unknown 9: Awakening will be their first. Meanwhile, Bandai Namco Europe is merely overseeing production, as they did with Park Beyond by Limbic Entertainment, another subsidiary of the publisher.
Unknown 9: Awakening is set for release on October 18th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. Here's your chance if you're looking for a new narrative-driven game.
