The launch of New World gets delayed again

When Amazon announced that it would enter the world of video games there were many doubts about if the giant was going to be able to do well in such an unfamiliar area. Said skepticism was reaffirmed when Crucible, the first free-to-play multiplayer shooter developed by the company was sent back to the design table shortly after quite an unmemorable launch. But the hopes are high for New World, Amazon's first take on the MMORPG genre, which seems to be appealing enough to a lot of players thanks to its unique approach to a 17th-century setting and its combat with no auto-locked targeting attacks.

With awesome graphics, a sprawling territory to explore as you please, and a very defined focus on player versus player battle among three different factions, New World has become a true hit even ahead of its release. A massive number of players have taken part in the closed beta, which has been a great success. The game features a buy-to-play business model with no subscription, which is another good selling point. Therefore, New World is destined to be one of the big titles of 2021, if it ever gets released. Amazon Games has just announced via Twitter that the release of New World has been moved to September 28 in order to make some adjustments based on the feedback collected during the beta.

Four weeks more is not going to make much of a difference for those eagerly waiting to play New World, especially if we consider the current state of the other big titles in the genre. Guild Wars 2 has announced a new expansion that won't arrive until next year; World of Warcraft is dealing with a huge problem with the general disappointment for its current content and the lawsuits Blizzard is facing, and Final Fantasy XIV is focused on its new expansion but the type of content it offers is vastly different than what New World will bring to the genre. As a result, the release of New World will happen under quite favorable circumstances. Let's hope that it does not get delayed again.
