Humble Bundles are a great way for players to get their hands on a ‘bundle’ of games for a heavily discounted price. This time, a new Humble Bundle has arrived: The Humble Detectives Bundle, offers an impressive collection of detective and mystery games for a minimum of $10, showcasing incredible value.
The bundle consists of Immortality - a mystery focused on the film industry, Killer Frequency - a thriller about a serial killer, Paradise Killer - a fantastical world with dark secrets, Call of Cthulhu - a cosmic horror game, The Darkside Detective and its sequel A Fumble in the Dark, both offering pixelated humor, and Overboard!, a whodunnit where you are the culprit.
For just $10, the bundle's value is undeniable.
Immortality is a great meta adventure in the vein of Sam Barlow's previous games Telling Lies and Her Story. An FMV mystery where you traverse through various scenes of three movies and behind scenes to understand the truth behind the actress Marissa Marcel and her unreleased films. The actors are great and the art direction is amazing, as with all of Sam's games. The skill of the cast and the genuine care out into the productions show in every part of the productions. The narrative was enthralling, so much so my inner completionist was set aside just for the exploration mechanics.
Paradise Killer is praised for its unique setting and neon-drenched world. It's not your typical mystery game, as there isnt any active deducting for you to do until the end, but the atmosphere is top-notch. Vapor wave aesthetic, Outer Gods, striking character designs, mystically powered cult, semi-voiced cast, vaporwave bangers and an island cut off from reality, filled with secrets and horrors in the brightest colors possible. The whiplash of going from areas like your friend's snazzy bar to the bloody sacrifical chamber of kidnapped humans is a constant presence, creating a trippy experience where blissful paradise is mired with a psychedelic cult.
There's also the "reverse murder mystery" of Overboard! here, by notable studio Inkle. In my favorite twist on the murder mystery, work to get away with your crime and keep your murdering a mystery. A relatively short game, but the vast options you have to conceal your crimes adds immense replayability. Uncover others' secrets while concealing your own or even pin them on others to get away. There were some questionable dialogs that seemed to break sequence, but other than that it was a great game.
For those who don’t know, each Humble Bundle helps raise money for charity – in this particular case, it’s DirectRelief. A non-profit, non-partisan organization that has become one the world’s largest providers of medical relief in the world. Direct Relief works with healthcare professionals and organizations on the ground, establishing partnerships with local organizations that provide health services to people who would otherwise not receive them.
If you’re thinking of getting it, don’t waste too much time – this bundle is only available until September 14. And as always, remember to utilise our comparison tool to secure the finest deal on your upcoming favourite game.
