The Callisto Protocol looks like a heart attack waiting to happen

The Callisto Protocol has finally received a release date—Developer Striking Distance Studios has announced that the Dead Space-inspired game will release on December 2, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC. Information and footage have been scarce since the game was announced in 2020, so it’s great to have a new trailer to view in all its gory glory:

A third-person survival horror game, The Callisto Protocol takes place 300 years in the future, we follow protagonist Jacob Lee (played by Josh Duhamel), as he attempts to survive an outbreak of mutated monsters, called Biophages, in a prison facility on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. Being only a cargo ship pilot and inmate, Lee is nowhere near equipped to fight these monsters—his gear includes a baton, a pistol, a shotgun, and a device called the GRP, which can manipulate objects and freeze enemies in place.

With its horrific monsters and zombie-like inmates, the game looks very much like Dead Space—which makes sense given it’s directed by Glen Schofield, creator of Dead Space.

In his own words, Schofield said, “I'm not going to shy away from a good idea because it was in one of my games. All game makers look at ideas from other games. Picasso said, 'good artists borrow, great artists steal.' Well, why not steal from myself?"

From the looks of the trailer, it goes deep into the survival horror aspects of Dead Space (the third entry of which took a different route). Every single enemy is designed to make you feel afraid and vulnerable, and from the looks of the trailer, it works. Incidentally, EA’s Dead Space remake is also underway, though for release in January 2023.

The Callisto Protocol is slated for release on December 2, 2022. You can check out a The Callisto Protocol PS5 key or a Dead Space PC code, cheap with our comparator.

Impressive trailer. I really liked Dead Space 1 and 2. Didn't hate 3 but only had fun with it because I played in coop. I'm kinda hyped about this one hope they don't disappoint.
Same. It looks like this is going back to its survival horror roots. Since it's slated for release near the Dead Space remake window, it will be interesting to compare the two.
