Tribute Games is taking us on a nostalgia trip with their latest brawler, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Inspired by the 1987 cartoons series and the hit 1991 arcade game Turtles in Time, Shredder’s Revenge captures the action, the spirit, and pixel art style almost perfectly.
See the return of the four radical dudes, leader Leonardo, hotheaded Raphael, brainy Donatello, and party-loving Michaelangelo, as they face their nemesis Shredder and his evil Foot Clan. In the recent Gamescom, publisher Dotemu also revealed a surprise fifth playable character: the Turtles’ long-time report ally April O’neill, complete with the standard yellow jumpsuit.
Heroes in a Half-Shell Return
Unlike previous TMNT games like Mutants in Manhattan or Out of the Shadows, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is a side-scrolling beat-em-up game, a throwback to Turtles in Time. Expect a lot of flying kicks, destructible environments, flashy ninja action, and enemies being tossed at the fourth wall. Developer Tribute Games is clearly drawing on their experience after creating brawlers like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. Up to four players can join in, and while only five playable characters have been announced so far, it’s likely for other favorites like Casey Jones to show up. Based on the gameplay footage, expect to fight familiar faces in iconic cartoon locations, including Channel 6 news, the streets of New York, the sewers, and even Dimension X.
When will Shredder’s Revenge be released?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will release some time in 2022. Watch this space for an announcement on the actual date. Confirmed platforms so far are the PC and the Nintendo Switch.
