Yet another ambitious mod project has been shut down by a major game studio—this time, it's the well-known Grand Theft Auto V mod that had been making waves in the GTA modding community.
Modder Dark Space created a playable Grand Theft Auto VI-inspired map in Grand Theft Auto V using leaked coordinate data and official trailer references from Grand Theft Auto VI. He then uploaded footage of the mod to his YouTube channel, where it quickly gained praise and excitement from GTA fans eager for any Grand Theft Auto VI-related content. However, with Grand Theft Auto VI still months away and no new official details in sight, Take-Two Interactive stepped in and copyright-claimed the video.
Take Two interactive has copyright claimed and removed my video on the GTA 6 map I made in GTA 5. I expected something like this could happen. I am surprised they didn't bother emailing me. I would have taken it down if asked.

"Take-Two Interactive has copyright-claimed and removed my video on the GTA 6 map I made in GTA 5. I expected something like this could happen. I am surprised they didn't bother emailing me. I would have taken it down if asked." — Dark Space shared on Twitter/X.
The modder acknowledged that the project was based on leaked coordinate data, meaning he always expected Take-Two to take action. He speculated, "My guess is that the map was probably a little too accurate."
Following the copyright strike, Dark Space decided to remove the download link for the mod, even though Take-Two didn’t explicitly request it. He explained:
"I've also removed the download links to my mod, even though they didn't ask me to. I think it's smarter to get out in front of them rather than waiting for their email that will never come."
Take-Two has long been known for its strict stance against modding, having previously shut down high-profile projects such as the Liberty City Preservation Project, which aimed to bring Grand Theft Auto IV’s map into Grand Theft Auto V.
While it's disappointing to see yet another creative project shut down, this is simply how big studios protect their business interests. Grand Theft Auto VI may be on the horizon, but Take-Two is still actively updating Grand Theft Auto V, including the recently released GTA 5 Enhanced Edition.
