Syberia: The World Before is the next in the series

Syberia: The World Before is the next in the series

Created in 2002 by Benoît Sokal, Syberia is a critically acclaimed point-and-click adventure game series that already has three installments, and Syberia: The World Before will be the next one. Although the first two games were popular among the players, Syberia 3, which was released in 2017, had a mixed reception due to its new mechanics, particularly the ones regarding the movement in the game which was no longer a point-and-click. This is something that did not convince the fans but they didn't like the graphics much either and they were considered a little dated for a 2017 game.

Obviously, when Microïds and Benoît Sokal announced in 2019 that they were working on Syberia: The World Before, a fourth episode of the franchise, the fans who were disappointed with Syberia 3 were also concerned about the future of the series.

Syberia: The World Before returns to the classic point-and-click gameplay once again, and we won't just be playing Kate Walker, the protagonist of the three previous games, as the story will take place in two different eras:

Vaghen, 1937: Dana Roze is a 17-year-old girl, who is beginning a brilliant career as a pianist. However, shadows begin to appear over her future as the fascist threat of the Brown Shadow hangs over Europe, at the dawn of the Second World War.

Taiga, 2004: Kate Walker survives as best she can in the salt mine where she has been imprisoned, when a tragic event propels her into a new adventure in search of her identity.

We do not yet know how these two scenarios will fit together, but the new game is a sequel to the previous installment, and you may be able to find some answers in the prologue of Syberia: The World Before which is playable now for free on Steam. Serving as a demo, the prologue of Syberia: The World Before allows you to play through the beginning of the game, pending its final release which should arrive in 2021.
