Nintendo presented a new Nintendo Direct stream exclusively dedicated to the latest major release in the Super Mario franchise. The presentation lasted about 15 minutes and provided details about the story, new mechanics, and all the content players can enjoy starting from October 20th, whether offline or online. Check out the details of what Nintendo showcased in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct.
The storyline of Super Mario Bros. Wonder takes place in the Flower Kingdom, a land not so far from the well-known Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and his gang have been invited there by Prince Florian, but Bowser shows up to spoil the event. This time, the villain aims to obtain the mysterious "Wonder Flower."
When he manages to touch the flower, Bowser merges with Prince Florian's castle, resulting in a frightening combination that brings chaos to the realm. Thus, it's up to Mario and his friends to defeat the villain once again.
In addition to the mustached protagonist, players can choose Luigi, Peach, two Toads and Toadette, Yoshi (green, red, yellow, and blue), and Nabbit. Despite the options, except for Yoshi and Nabbit, the rest will have the same type of gameplay. The dinosaur and the rabbit don't suffer damage, making them suitable for those seeking a simpler game experience.
Mario's new 2D adventure will once again feature power-ups, which provide different abilities:
A novelty will be the Wonder Flowers. Aside from communicating with players, they'll have the ability to alter gameplay when collected. When a player grabs a phenomenal flower, the screen can shift from a horizontal 2D perspective to a top-down view, the ground can tilt, herds of enemies may appear, the game can transition to space, and much more. The game will offer local multiplayer for up to four people. When players die, they'll move around the scenery as ghosts. Online play will also be possible with individuals worldwide, allowing interaction during stages.
During the Nintendo Direct, the company took the opportunity to unveil a new model of the Nintendo Switch OLED, a special Mario edition. The company did the same with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The red-colored console will be released on October 6th, 2023, weeks before the official game release on October 20th, 2023.
