Starcraft II won't have any more content updates

Ten years, that's the time that Blizzard has dedicated to the latest installment in the Starcraft series. That doesn´t include the years that they took to develop Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, of course. Zergs, Protoss, and Terrans have been fighting each other for the control of the galaxy for quite a long time now, and Starcraft II managed to become one of the most popular games in the real-time strategy genre. With a thrilling single-player campaign that got expanded through several expansions, including Legacy of the Void and Heart of the Swarm, Starcraft II was like a breath of fresh air for all the fans. It's multiplayer was designed to deliver the most epic competitive gameplay experience and it has been one of the major esports games for quite a while now. It's not like if all of that would be disappearing now, but Blizzard has announced that the game will now move to legacy support, which means that they will not develop any kind of extra content for Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty anymore in the future.

The first question that comes to our mind is how will all this impact the esports side of the game. It seems that Starcraft II professional players don't have to worry about that because Blizzard has guaranteed that the competitions will continue running through partners ESL Gaming and GSL.

The second big question is about the future of the Starcraft franchise. Everyone is wondering if there is a Starcraft III in the works and what kind of game it will be. Nothing has been said on that matter, so the future of the license is uncertain. Although it's quite likely that Blizzard won't be dropping Starcraft, it is yet to be seen if the real-time strategy is among the plans of the company for the license. We can take for granted that if a new Starcraft game appears in the future it won't belong to any of the video games genres covered by other Blizzard's games but that still leaves many possibilities open. We will have to wait a bit longer to see what happens.
