Capcom has been on a roll lately with its remakes of the beloved Resident Evil series, especially with the announcement that Resident Evil 4 remake has recently surpassed 9 million copies sold since its launch. With the release in March 2023, the modern retelling of the 2005 classic has achieved a remarkable feat, reaching a staggering seven million copies sold.
Resident Evil 4 began a new era for the series when it was originally launched, introducing players to a gripping narrative centered around Leon S. Kennedy. Tasked with rescuing Ashley Graham, the president's daughter, Leon finds himself embroiled in a battle against a secret cult. The fresh mechanics and new storytelling style of Resident Evil 4 have marked a departure from the series's survival horror roots.

According to Alex Aniel, author of Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4 remake has quickly claimed the title of the fastest-selling game in the Resident Evil franchise. To put this achievement into perspective, Resident Evil Village, its preceding mainline title, sold only 500,000 copies by the time it entered its eighth quarter on the market.
Given the remarkable success of the Resident Evil 4 remake, fans are eagerly anticipating what Capcom has in store next for the franchise. The hope for a remake of Resident Evil 5 is growing, especially considering that the preceding remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 were released just over a year apart. But there are plenty of other games in the Resident Evil series that could receive a modern makeover, like Resident Evil 0 and, of course, a Resident Evil 9 announcement wouldn't disappoint either.
