Blizzard lowers the price of cloning characters for Burning Crusade Classic

A few days ago we told you about the huge discomfort that the price of cloning one of your characters to transfer it for the release of Burning Crusade Classic has provoked in the communityThe launch of the first expansion for the classic experience that Blizzard offers for free to all players that have an active World of Warcraft subscription is around the corner, and even though a majority of players have welcome the announcement, there are still quite a few that would like to stick to the original classic experience. There is no real issue for those that want to completely ignore Burning Crusade Classic but there are quite a few players that would love to have a taste of both worlds. Blizzard did set the price of cloning your character to one of the servers that will stay permanently as the original classic to 35€, which caused a huge wave of complaints.

It seems that those complaints have had an effect on the company, which has announced that they are lowering the price to 15€. Blizzard community manager Kaivax has explained their decision on Battle.net forums.

"Our original concept of the value of this service was largely based on how we price other optional items and services. We want players who choose Classic Era realms to feel as though their choice comes with the possibility that they’ll be able to build relationships and guilds with other players they can count on.

However, over the last week or so, we’ve gotten a very large amount of feedback from the community, and we’ve decided to lower the price. A lower price will likely still accomplish our goals with the new service, while allowing many more players to explore the option of playing characters on both Classic Era and Burning Crusade Classic realms."

Of course, Blizzard can charge whatever they see fit for those kinds of services but having the whole launch of Burning Crusade Classic tagged as a "cash grab" by a huge number of players does not make any favor to the game, especially considering that you are already paying a subscription to play and that the content is not new at all. Whatever the case, Burning Crusade Classic is bound to be a success and there are a lot of players that have been preparing for its launch for weeks already. It does not seem that Blizzard is intending to launch patch 9.1 for Shadowlands anytime soon either, so it's quite likely that a majority of World of Warcraft players will cross the Dark Portal again to visit Outland.
