Palworld to launch on PS5 but with a catch

Sony's recent State of Play event has just concluded, and among the surprises was the announcement of Ghost of Yotei. One notable reveal was that Palworld will be coming to PlayStation 5 — though this announcement left out an important detail.

 

 

While Palworld has officially launched on the PS5 in 68 countries and regions worldwide, Japan is noticeably absent. A post on the official Palworld X account (formerly Twitter) confirmed that the PS5 version will not be available in Japan.
 


The tweet, when translated, reads: “The release date for Japan has not yet been decided. We sincerely apologize to Japanese players who are eagerly awaiting the game, but our team is doing their best to bring the game to PS5 users as quickly as possible, so we hope you can wait a little longer.”

This move by the Palworld team is likely in response to the legal action Nintendo took against Palworld, which was filed in Tokyo District Court last week. The details of the lawsuit have not been made public yet, and it's unclear exactly which patents Nintendo is suing Palworld over. However, the fate of the PS5 version of Palworld in Japan is now uncertain. Many experts have pointed out that the lawsuit may drag on for quite some time, so if the delay is indeed due to Nintendo’s lawsuit, this situation could take a while to resolve.
