After a long period of anticipation, Palworld has finally been released on the PS5, following an announcement during PlayStation’s State of Play event. While the game was made available in 68 regions and languages, Japan was notably left out. The sudden decision to exclude the PS5 release in Japan sparked numerous questions among fans, with the most prominent being when Pocketpair would introduce Palworld to the Japanese PS5 market. Fortunately, Japanese players won’t have to wait much longer.

Just as it seemed that PS5 users in Japan might have to wait for an extended period, Palworld’s official Twitter account made a surprise announcement: “The Japanese PS5 version of Palworld is launching today on the PlayStation Store,” confirming its availability on the Japanese PS5 market.
While Pocketpair has yet to reveal the reason for the delay, it’s highly likely that legal pressure from Nintendo is the main cause. Nintendo has filed a lawsuit accusing Pocketpair of patent infringement. Pocketpair publicly responded, stating that they were unaware of any specific patents Palworld may have violated, but many experts have pointed out that Nintendo is likely targeting game mechanics involving capturing wild creatures or the use of items like the Poké Ball or Pal Sphere to trap these creatures.
Despite the ongoing lawsuit, Pocketpair has announced that they will continue to update the game and will release a major update for the PS5 version of Palworld. Pocketpair’s community manager, John "Bucky" Buckley, reassured fans, stating that Nintendo’s lawsuit would not affect their future plans for Palworld. Palworld is currently available on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
