No rings in Elden Ring? Director explains why

In a departure from fantasy tropes and previous FromSoftware games, Elden Ring will not have wearable rings. Nothing like the New Ring in Shadow of War or similar titles.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki provides this explanation during an interview with Edge magazine:

"Rings do exist as physical 'finger rings' in this game, but more as unique items involved in the story and unique character events. So we wanted them to have a special positioning within the world of Elden Ring and also to be something different from a design standpoint in relation to the talismans." So there you have it: rings will play a special role as story items, not as buff-giving inventory items. Mechanically, Talismans have taken over that role. In-game examples include the Crimson Amber Medallion, which raises HP, and the Viridian Amber Medallion, which increases stamina.
