MSI listing suggests that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 will feature 24GB of VRAM

A Reddit user named Due-Bee-9574 (via Unkio’s Hardware) has found a mention of a forthcoming 24GB RTX 5080 graphics card on the MSI website. This reference appeared in the CPU compatibility list for MSI’s MAG X870 TOMAHAWK motherboard.

Currently, Nvidia’s RTX 5080 GPU is available only as a 16GB graphics card. However, with the advent of GDDR7 memory, GPU manufacturers can now utilize 24Gb (3GB) memory modules. Previously, with GDDR6, only 16Gb (2GB) modules were available. This advancement enables GDDR7 GPUs to possess more memory while operating with smaller memory bus sizes.

Nvidia is already incorporating 3GB GDDR7 memory modules in its GPUs. Examples include the 24GB RTX 5090 mobile GPU and the 96GB RTX Blackwell 6000. Presently, the 16GB RTX 5080 GPUs utilize 2GB GDDR7 memory modules. Consequently, a 24GB version could be feasible if Nvidia opts for the 3GB GDDR7 memory modules.

Speculation regarding a 24GB RTX 5080 GPU has been prevalent since September 2024. These speculations consistently suggested that the 24GB variant of the GPU would be launched later. Such GPUs would be extremely beneficial for video editors and content creators, who would greatly appreciate having additional GPU memory. Additionally, considering the popularity of game texture mods, many gamers would likely desire a 24GB RTX 5080 GPU variant as well.
