Metal Slug Tactics Revealed as Roguelike RPG

Metal Slug Tactics Revealed as Roguelike RPG

A classic action game takes on a new genre in Metal Slug Tactics. Longtime fans who have been waiting for another Metal Slug since Metal Slug Attack will finally see the return of Peregrine Falcon Squad members Marco, Fio, Eri, and Tarma in a brand new adventure. Developed by Leika Studios, Metal Slug Tactics was announced during the Nintendo Indie World Livestream Event last August, with a video to match.

The PF Squad's old enemy, Daniel Mordren, is alive and is hell-bent on revenge. Having been sheltered by a friendly country, he has gathered a new army and is planning—what else—to take over the world. It's up to the Squad to take him down once and for all.

Instead of the familiar run-and-gun gameplay, Metal Slug Tactics is a turn-based tactical game much like Gears Tactics and XCom. It also introduces roguelike elements wherein map tiles and mission layouts are procedurally generated. You can’t rely on memorization alone—you need to adapt your strategy in every battle to win.

Thankfully, players can also use new gameplay elements such as combos, artillery support, skill trees, perks, and an adrenaline system that can fuel a devastating super attack. Of course, players have access to all of Metal Slug’s traditional weapons, so there will be gunfights and explosions aplenty as you face some of Metal Slug's iconic enemies.

Not everything has changed in the game. Metal Slug Tactics retains the bright and colorful pixel-art comic book style that has made the original series so recognizable and iconic. The game also features original music by Tee Lopes (League of Legends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge).

Metal Slug Tactics will release on the Nintendo Switch and PC sometime in 2022.
