CI Games and Hexworks have released the 2.0 update for Lords of the Fallen, introducing big combat improvements and a lot of quality-of-life features. The version, considered the definitive edition of the action RPG, is now available on all platforms. The update introduced Shared Progression Co-op, where two players in online co-op mode, within the same New Game and with similar progress against bosses, share story advancement, keep items and vigor, and can revive each other. There's also crossplay between platforms.
This version added the Free Friend's Pass to make it easier to have a buddy. This Pass lets you invite friends who don't own the game to co-op sessions, with item retention and offline access to the tutorial and character creator. This feature was recently seen in Split Fiction, which also allows two players to play together using a single copy of the game.
Other new features in Lords of the Fallen include a combat system with smoother animations that improve dodging and better weapon response that affects both blocking and even the combat audio, drawing players deeper into the experience. One of the biggest highlights, simple as it may sound, is a dedicated jump button for navigation. With this new command, CI Games hopes exploration and platforming in Lords of the Fallen will be much better.
In addition, version 2.0 upgrades the character creator's visual fidelity with more facial textures and body shapes, UI changes with a streamlined and modern design, and a revamped tutorial with friendly onboarding and a guidebook to revisit previous tips. Last but not least, the Umbral Lamp now highlights paths to the next vestiges. Version 2.0 of Lords of the Fallen brings major changes to the game, practically giving its gameplay a whole makeover. Best of all, it's free, so everyone who already owns the game can enjoy it — and even those who don't, with the new Free Friend's Pass. Version 2.0 is probably the last update CI Games will provide for the game. Developer HEXWORKS has already revealed it's working on the sequel to Lords of the Fallen.
