Intel unveils new AI chip for gaming laptops

At CES 2025, Intel officially launched its latest line of processors, including the Core Ultra 200H and 200HX. Both are AI chips specifically designed for high-performance ultrathin laptops and gaming laptops.

Intel promises a leap forward for gaming laptops with the new AI chip. The Core Ultra 200H series, highlighted by the Core Ultra 9 285H, features 16 cores (6 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, and 2 low-power cores) and a maximum clock speed of up to 5.4 GHz. Notably, the chip also integrates 8 Intel Arc GPU cores.

Meanwhile, the Core Ultra 200HX series targets higher-end performance for gaming and heavy workloads. The flagship Core Ultra 9 285HX boasts up to 24 cores (8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores) with a maximum clock speed of 5.5 GHz. Although it includes only 4 Intel GPU cores, this chip is designed to work alongside discrete graphics cards from NVIDIA or AMD, delivering top-tier gaming experiences on laptops.

The primary advantage of these new CPUs lies in their improved power efficiency. They provide higher performance while consuming less power, which is essential for mobile workstations and extending battery life in enthusiast systems. In terms of performance, these CPUs offer over a 5% improvement in single-threaded tasks and more than a 20% boost in multi-threaded tasks.

Intel stated that devices using the Core Ultra 200H and 200HX chips will be launched in the first quarter of 2025. During this time, desktop models featuring Core Ultra 200S chips will also hit the market.

The launch of this new chip series is seen as Intel's strategic "counterattack" against competitors like AMD, reaffirming the company's leadership in processor technology. And as always, remember to use our comparison tool to find the best deal for your next favorite game.
