Warner Bros. Games has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is now in development. Originally released in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy brought J.K. Rowling’s magical world to life, offering a unique open-world action RPG where players could fully immerse themselves in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry like never before.
The news of a sequel isn’t unexpected, as Hogwarts Legacy achieved enormous success, closing out 2023 as the year’s best-selling game and surpassing 30 million units in sales as of last month. Warner Bros. has made it clear that creating a follow-up to Hogwarts Legacy has been a top priority.
According to Variety, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is a "top priority" for Warner Bros. In an interview, David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, shared that the sequel will coordinate story elements with HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television series. Haddad noted that the success of Hogwarts Legacy has enabled Warner Bros. to make a significant push for the Harry Potter franchise.
Hogwarts Legacy was set in the 1890s, while the TV series is expected to be a re-telling of the Harry Potter books, set in the 1990s. It remains to be seen whether the sequel will take place before or after the events of the TV show. The interview also clarified that while J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in managing the franchise, Warner Bros. Discovery will keep her informed and aims to go "beyond a canon conversation."
In addition to the sequel, Warner Bros. is reportedly working on a Hogwarts Legacy: Definitive Edition DLC, which will include new content and story elements. For current owners of the original game, the additional content from the Definitive Edition will be available as a separate DLC.
Although there’s no confirmed release date for either the sequel or the DLC, the future looks bright for the Harry Potter franchise. In the meantime, gamers can use our price comparator to find the best deals on Hogwarts Legacy as we wait for more updates.
