Hitman 3’s Freelancer mode delayed to later in 2022

The new Hitman 3 game mode, the roguelike Freelancer, has been pushed back to later this year. According to developer Eidos Interactive, despite the praises it received during playtesting, they feel the mode needs a bit more time to polish before launch.

"In short, this mode is quite expansive and involving. It's built for players that want to dive deeper into what a Hitman game can be and for that reason, we've decided to give it more time.

The truth is that it's a luxurious decision for us to make. Hitman 3 has been a success and with that, we're able to give our team that extra time to tighten the bolts and make sure that the mode is as close to our ambitions as possible. We want it to land well and be a platform for Hitman players to enjoy this game world for a long period of time."

Freelancer mode sees Agent 47 obtaining a customizable safehouse from where he conducts high-stakes assassinations in several locations, first fighting the henchmen before taking on a final mission to eliminate the leader. Originally set for a spring launch, it's now delayed to the latter half of this year.

Since we won’t be expecting this new mode anytime soon, we can at least look forward to other Hitman 3 content. In May, we’ll see the return of elusive targets and elusive target arcade content. There are new contracts coming along with a new challenge called the Duck Hunt, which includes a new weapon appropriately called the Ducky Gun.

Finally, in July we will also see a new map: Ambrose Island, which is connected to several events prior to Hitman 3’s story. You can look at the full release map on the IO website.
