If a few days ago we were wondering if developer WB Montreal would confirm that Gotham Knights features co-op gameplay for up to four players or not, we have just been hit with a rather unpleasant surprise. Warner Bros. has announced that the upcoming game inspired by DC Comics series will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The announcement has been made along with the presentation of brand new gameplay footage of Gotham Knights. It has left all those fans that were expecting to play the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One quite disappointed, as the game was originally intended to launch on those platforms too.
There's no clue about the reasons behind this sudden change, and the closest thing to a possible explanation can only be found in the press release that accompanies the video, which shows Nightwing and Red Hood in action.
"Please note, to provide players with the best possible gameplay experience, the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC and will not be available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles."
It's possible that the publisher is trying to avoid a situation similar to what happened with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, whose old-gen versions were so disappointing that they led to one of the biggest controversies in recent years. In any case, it's rather surprising that they have decided to abandon those versions barely five months after the release of the game, which is scheduled for October 25th.
You still have a few months ahead to consider buying a new console if you want to play Gotham Knights on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. Remember that you can use our comparator to find your Gotham Knights CD Key at the best price anytime.
