Fatshark plans to overhaul Darktide itemization

Fatshark has gone through a lot to get Warhammer 40,000: Darktide where it is now. The studio had to deal with a disappointed fan base at launch because the game didn't quite convince despite its thrilling gameplay. The creators of Warhammer Vermintide 2 have released many patches since then, and the game is right now in a much better state, especially since the patch that overhauled the class system was released.

The rework of the skill trees and modifications to many abilities have made the game much more appealing now. But Fatshark seems determined to turn Warhammer 40,000: Darktide into its best version, and now it has announced an upcoming patch that will significantly change one of the most controversial aspects of the game. We are talking, of course, about crafting.

"We took the philosophy with this game to not be afraid of doing quite massive changes. The start of that was the class overhaul. We felt at the launch that we weren't really happy with how we ended up with our classes. So we decided to rebuild it… and now we're doing the same sort of idea with itemisation."

No more locks

In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide you unlock access to additional weapons for a specific character just by leveling up your character. However, the new system will introduce significant changes to this mechanic, especially to the one that allows you to further modify the stats of any weapon you get via crafting. The new Mastery system will allow players to unlock new blessings, perks, marks and a special weapon cosmetic for a specific group of weapons just by using any of them in combat. It's worth noticing that in Darktide each mark of a specific weapon type can perform differently in combat with unique abilities and firing modes. The new system will make accessing all of them more natural.

Once you have your favourite weapon, you can upgrade its stats via crafting with the Expertise system, and here is where the big change comes. With the old system, you could only change a weapon's Perks or Blessing two times, which forced you to look for another weapon that you could improve if you didn't get the modifiers you wanted. The new system will allow you to modify these as often as you want, providing that you have enough materials to do so. Such a small change will definitely reduce the time you spend trying to get the optimal weapon for your favourite character build in Darktide.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide maintains a stable player base and it's not hard to find a group, which is essential for this multiplayer shooter. Changes like this will surely make the game more appealing to all those who enjoy fighting against chaos cultists and abominations in the depths of Tertium.
