A deadly shootout in a bar. That seems to be Ubisoft Montreal's way of introducing to us the world of their upcoming first-person shooter. The launch date of Far Cry: New Dawn is getting closer, and they have published the official live-action trailer for the game. On it, we can see what happens when Mickey and Lou walk into a bar in Montana.
It can't really surprise us that there is nobody left standing after those two leave the place. The video reflects perfectly the atmosphere of violence that impregnates this new installment of the Far Cry series. After all, Far Cry: New Dawn takes place seventeen years after the events of Far Cry 5. A nuclear war has devastated most of the world, and several groups are struggling to rebuild what´s left of Hope County. In such a situation of scarcity, the use and abuse of power proves to be quite effective to get whatever you want, especially if you lack morals, and that´s what happens with the Highwaymen, the group of bandits led by Mickey and Lou. Now, being in the middle of this situation will leave you quite short of options, because on the opposite side of them you can find what's left of the Project at Eden's Gate sect from the previous game. Living in Montana has definitely not become any tad easier over the years.
On the gameplay side, Far Cry: New Dawn will turn out to be quite familiar to the followers of the series. Old systems like Fangs for Hire and Guns for Hire are back, allowing you to recruit animals and survivors to assist you during your missions. New weapons and a system to upgrade them will let you deal with any problems you may face, and you will also be able to make use of all kind of vehicles. Pretty much what you would expect from any Far Cry title at this time. The game features a home base that you will be able to upgrade, and a system with outposts that you will be able to raid for resources or occupy to produce ethanol. The exciting thing is that if you abandon them, the Highwaymen will take them back and escalate them, allowing you to raid them again, but with a higher difficulty. You will travel outside of Montana on expeditions to look for supplies, and other players will be able to join you during them in a sort of multiplayer mode.
To sum up, the franchise takes a post-apocalyptic turn and offers us a title that feels both familiar and surprising, with quite a solid and fluid gameplay and a good story. Far Cry: New Dawn delivers all you would expect from a new entry to the series, and a tad more. The game is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 15th, 2019.
