Elden Ring breaks its own player count record

Elden Ring is enjoying a lot of attention from critics and players despite some early technical hiccups on the PC. Thus far, it has achieved an all-time high of 891,638 concurrent players on Steam as of Monday, February 28, breaking its own record of 764,000 players upon launch.

This makes Elden Ring Steam’s 7th most played game in terms of player count. The 6th spot is currently held by New World with 913,634, but who knows? Come the next few weeks or maybe by this weekend, we may see Elden Ring top that too. As it stands, Elden Ring is currently played more than multi-player games such as PUBG: Battlegrounds and Lost Ark. Given its consistently high marks from critics, it seems safe to say we’re looking at one of the all-time greatest RPGs, and certainly the best Souls-like game.

In other news, writer George R.R. Martin has chimed in his blog about the game he helped create. Having previously called the Elden Ring “incredible,” he has since remarked that the majority of the credit goes to the developers:

"Of course, almost all the credit should go to Hidetaka Miyazaki and his astonishing team of games designers who have been laboring on this game for half a decade or more, determined to create the best videogame ever.  I am honored to have met them and worked with them, and to have played a part, however small, in creating this fantastic world and making ELDEN RING the landmark megahit that it is."

Here's more of what he has to say, care of Dan Allen Gaming:
