Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance looks surprisingly good

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is an action role-playing game that was announced back in December 2019 with a video that showcased a legendary group of heroes fighting against hordes of monsters in a snow-covered battlefield. Those that are familiar with Forgotten Realms and R. A. Salvatore's novels rapidly recognized Drizzt Do'Urden and his friends Catti-Brie, Bruenor Battlehammer, and Wulfgar. But the most impressive thing about the video was the camera angle and some of the movements of the characters, who gave it a unique appearance that left most viewers not knowing what to expect about the game. Dark Alliance received a lot of critics cause of that but, to be fair, we did not know much about the game other than it would be a cooperative action RPG.

Moving fast forward several months, we just found out that Wizards of the Coast has published a new video that gives us a much better look at Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, and it seems to be completely different than what was hinted at in the first video. We can't be happier about it.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance will let you join Drizzt and his friends in an epic adventure. They will try to defend Icewind Dale from a monster invasion. The game will challenge you with missions that you can complete in whatever order you choose and you will control one of the four heroes in battles against monsters like goblins, orcs, frost giants, beholders, white dragons, and more. Up to three other friends will be able to join you in this adventure. Each of the heroes has its own playstyle and abilities that you can customize as you please. As you progress through the game, you will find more powerful gear and unlock more abilities that will allow you to face more dangerous enemies.

The gameplay style of Dark Alliance reminisces of Neverwinter in some aspects, but it has little to do with the MMO beyond that, and it seems to be more detailed in many aspects. We will have to wait until June 22 to be able to play the game on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
