Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will receive its New Game Plus DLC for free

In less than a week, fans will finally get their hands on the highly anticipated spin-off Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Following recent controversy, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced that the New Game Plus mode for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be released as free downloadable content, addressing fan concerns.

Despite Yakuza being one of the most beloved franchises, it hasn’t been without controversy. When Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth was released, its New Game Plus mode was locked behind the two most expensive editions of the title, frustrating many gamers who felt compelled to purchase these editions just to access a mode that is typically free in many games. RGG Studio did not reverse its decision despite the backlash over Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, but fortunately, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has taken a different approach.

Recently, RGG Studio hosted the Like a Dragon Direct event, during which they broadcasted a 13-minute video showcasing various aspects of the new installment, including the combat system, team building, and more. At the end of the video, RGG revealed that players would be able to enjoy New Game Plus for free when the mode is added through a patch after the game’s release. However, the video did not specify when players can expect the New Game Plus mode to be released.

So, RGG Studio has finally changed its mind. Viewing New Game Plus—a feature that has inherently become essential and is often free in many games—as "paid content" is simply unacceptable. Deluxe and special editions should focus on providing exclusive costumes, skins, and in-game items rather than locking core game features behind a paywall.

It’s reassuring to see RGG Studio take fans’ criticism seriously. Now, all that’s left is to wait for launch day. Be sure to use our comparison tool to find the best discounts for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
