Dragon Age: The Veilguard gameplay is not like we expected

It's been a frantic week for the fans of Dragon Age and many are still processing all the new information about Dragon Age: The Veilguard that has been revealed recently. A name change that left Dreadwolf behind was followed by a release date set for next fall, so the information about the game has piled up in the last few days. The culmination of those reveals was the first official gameplay video of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which was revealed yesterday. The previous video served as an introduction for the new protagonists in the story, a group of seven companions that are nothing like their predecessors. Each of them has a different background and different abilities and you will see them in action for the first time in the following video.

A brand-new approach to the franchise

If the first video raised some eyebrows due to the overall graphics aspect of the game the new video offers a better look at the game engine at work and the different mechanics in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The most significant change to the franchise is that the new game will not be an open-world adventure. Instead of that, the game will feature a branching storyline with different paths and missions that will be available depending on your choices. The narrative will be more linear, which is something that the fans of the series may not like, but that will contribute to delivering a cohesive experience. This also may catch the eye of other types of players. After all, one of the problems of Dragon Age Inquisition was that there were so many things to do that it was easy to lose interest if you weren't focused on your objectives.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard may not be the game that many fans were expecting, but it looks solid and dynamic enough to bring BioWare and its iconic franchise back to the top. In terms of competition, pretty much nothing released during the last year is at the level of Baldur's Gate III, but BioWare is playing with different cards and Dragon Age: The Veilguard has the potential to become one of the biggest hits of 2024.
