Control 2 is real and it’s coming

Remedy Studio confirmed Friday that they are currently working on Control 2. Announced on their blog, Remedy will be working once more with Milan-based 505 Games to co-develop and co-publish the next installment of the popular supernatural shooter, which had been going by the title Codename Heron. They’ve even released the first concept art, shown here:

According to game director Mikael Kasurinen, "With Control 2, we’ll take another leap into the unknown. It’ll be an unexpected journey. It’ll take a while, but to put it mildly, this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait."

Rami and Raffi Galante, co-CEOs of Digital Bros Group/505 Games, have this to say: “Control is the biggest investment 505 Games has ever made, so it has a special place in our hearts. We are grateful to the whole player community that has made Control such a long-lasting and loved game, and are even more excited to bring out Control 2.”

They’re not wrong about it being their biggest investment—Control 2 will have a much larger budget than its predecessor. Control 2 has a budget of approximately $52 million, while Control had $30 million. We’re likely going to see a bigger, more action-packed game in store for us. Apart from the sequel, Remedy is also working on a multiplayer co-op PvE game based on Control.

The original game features protagonist Jesse Faden, a young woman who comes to the Federal Bureau of Control, a shadowy branch of the government that investigates supernatural phenomena, and winds up becoming its new Director, complete with an otherworldly gun. She must save the Bureau from falling to an escaped extra-dimensional threat called The Hiss, which can possess people and turn them into hideous monsters.

Of course, we don’t have a release date yet for the sequel as it’s still in its initial stages. Doubtless, we’ll hear more about the game as development moves along. If you haven’t played it yet, you can pick up a Control PC key from our comparator.
