Cities: Skylines II won't reach consoles anytime soon

Despite the success of Cities: Skylines, which was one of the most popular city builders in the genre for quite a long time, developer Colossal Order Ltd. does not seem to be able to hit the nail with its successor. The huge ambition of the studio with Cities: Skylines II is costing it dearly.

After several delays, the final version of the game had many problems on release. The studio even warned the players about this before the game was available and promised to improve the game later on. Some big patches later, everything seemed to be moving in the right direction, but the extra workload caused some serious inconveniences. New delays on the arrival of post-launch content left the fans a bit disappointed even though a significantly large fan base opted for supporting Cities: Skylines II.

Fortunately, the developer studio has made big progress in improving the overall status of Cities: Skylines II and the game now offers an experience that is more stable. However, the process is slow and the extra effort comes with consequences for the console players.

Delayed indefinitely

The release of Cities: Skylines II on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series was planned for next October after a couple of postponements. Now it seems that the studio won't be able to meet that deadline either, as explained on Paradox's forums.

"Unfortunately, we have not yet met the stability and performance targets we set for the console release. Without a Release Candidate (RC), we are now unable to meet an October release window.

While we are making slow but steady progress, there are still unresolved issues impacting the game in ways that harm the player experience we want to deliver. We expect to receive a new RC, which will undergo a thorough review in August. This evaluation will determine whether we can begin the submission process and provide a solid release date, or if further issues need to be addressed."

The studio will continue working on a console version of Cities: Skylines II, which may be released sometime in the future. Until then, your best choice is to opt for the PC version if you are a seasoned fan of the series. Remember that you can find the best deals on Cities: Skylines II digital codes with our comparator.
