AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series CPUs have been spotted

AMD has recently launched its Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D processors, which are designed to be the top offerings for gaming and content creation on the AM5 platform. It appears that AMD is also gearing up to introduce Zen 5 to a new sector: workstations. Recent shipping manifests (via Tom's Hardware) have revealed the next-gen Zen 5 Ryzen Threadripper CPUs, indicating that TRX50 and WRX90 users will soon have new options for upgrades.

The Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9000-series lineup is anticipated to include five processors with core counts of 16, 24, 32, 64, and 96, all based on the Zen 5 microarchitecture. Given that AMD's Zen 5 core complex die (CCD) incorporates eight cores with 32 MB of L3 cache, a 16-core Threadripper Pro 9000-series CPU will utilize two compute dies, a 32-core variant will employ four CCDs, a 64-core model will contain eight CCDs, and a 96-core version will consist of 12 core complex dies and 384 MB of L3 cache.

These specifications closely resemble those of the existing Threadripper 7000-series, suggesting that the cache structure may remain unchanged. However, there are rumors that AMD might skip a 12-core variant this time around.

It's important to note that the details from shipping manifests are not official. At this point, the launch timing for AMD's next-generation Threadripper and EPYC processors remains uncertain. Historically, AMD has released new Threadripper CPUs significantly later than their Ryzen desktop and EPYC counterparts, which implies we might not see the Zen 5 Threadripper CPUs until mid to late 2025. Nonetheless, there's always the possibility that AMD could surprise us with an earlier release.
