Rocksteady Studios is moving forward, putting the disappointment of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League behind them. Now, the studio appears to be gearing up for its next major project—potentially a new Batman game. A recently posted job listing has revealed some intriguing details about what’s next for the studio.
A new job listing from Rocksteady seeks a Senior Core Engine Programmer to work on an upcoming unannounced AAA title. While the job posting doesn’t explicitly confirm what this game will be, leaks and rumors suggest that Rocksteady’s next big project is a new Batman game—possibly a fresh take on the Dark Knight following the success of the Arkham series.
One of the most interesting details from the job listing is that the new title aims to "deliver the highest quality game experience on our target hardware, including high-end PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the next generation of consoles." Given that most major AAA games take between 3 to 5 years to develop, this suggests that the next Batman game could launch sometime between 2027 and 2030, making it one of the first titles to debut on the PS6 and the next-gen Xbox.
The job listing also confirms that Rocksteady’s next game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. This isn’t surprising, given the studio’s long history with Unreal technology—Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was built on Unreal Engine 4. It will be exciting to see how Rocksteady utilizes the new and improved engine to create a more immersive world for its upcoming game.
It remains to be seen whether Rocksteady can bounce back from the misfire of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but a return to the Batman universe could be exactly what the studio needs to win back fans. Regardless of what comes next, the legacy of Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight lives on.
