Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is without a doubt one of the most popular games, if not the most popular, developed by Blizzard. It is, therefore, logical that the expectations of the players regarding Warcraft III: Reforged are quite high. Blizzard was not at its first attempt in terms of remastering or rebooting one of its old games. They released StarCraft: Remastered in 2017, which consisted of a graphic and audio redesign of the original version of the game, as well as its expansion Brood War, and it was very well received by players. More recently, we were able to see WoW Classic, which allows us to relive the beginnings of World of Warcraft.
It is not surprising that Blizzard wanted to give life to one of its most popular titles. The project for a remaster of Warcraft III had been mentioned in 2015, then officially announced at BlizzCon 2018. Warcraft III: Reforged was originally due to be released in 2019, but its release was postponed, and the title was finally released on January 29, 2020.
Unfortunately, Warcraft III: Reforged does not enjoy the same warm welcome as the Starcraft remaster. Two days after the release of the game, the problems pointed out by the players are already numerous. Some expected features that were present in the original game are missing. The quality of the graphic redesign, as well as the new dubbing, especially in other languages than English, does not convince fans. Besides that, one point particularly angered the players: Blizzard has indeed updated its terms of use, stating that the ownership of the mods created by the community belongs to the company. It seems that DotA's experience has left its mark and that Blizzard does not want it to happen to them.
Faced with this observation, we can only wonder what will be the future of Warcraft III: Reforged. It would surely have been better for Blizzard to postpone the release of the game. It remains to be seen what they plan to do, but it is very likely that the teams are already working to resolve a number of the problems that are affecting Warcraft III: Reforged. Blizzard has the means, and it would be surprising if they left the situation as it is.
