Ubisoft announces a new Prince of Persia and it's a VR experience

Ubisoft is bringing back the Prince of Persia license with a new game but it will be completely different from all the other titles in the series because it's going to be a VR escape room game. Prince of Persia games as suffered an evolution since the original game was launched in 1989 and the games shifted from being more focused on platforms to the action-adventure genre when Ubisoft took control of the license and launched Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The game was a success and it was followed by Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands but no other installments have been released after them.

Now the French company has put its studio in Düsseldorf in charge of developing Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time, a multiplayer escape room VR game. In the game, a team of up to four players will have to try to escape from the mysterious Fortress of Time and prevent an army of Sand Monsters from being unleashed. Such a feat will involve a lot of exploration, puzzle-solving, and cooperation and the players will have to do it all in VR.

You can expect to be able to use time manipulation mechanics and magic when you face the different challenges in Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time. Even though players will find traps like in other Prince of Persia games, time manipulation is the key here. One of the players will wield the Dagger of Time, which grants the power of manipulating the flow of time. The other players will have Medallions of Time, so they are not affected by the powers of the dagger. This combination allows for a wide variety of possibilities when it comes to interacting with the environment and solving puzzles. Teamwork will be needed to progress through the game.

Ubisoft Düsseldorf is experienced in developing escape room games since it's the studio that created Beyond Medusa’s Gate and Escape the Lost Pyramid based on the Assassin's Creed series.

It's a bit disappointing that instead of focusing on releasing a new game for PC or consoles Ubisoft has decided to put effort and time into developing a game that requires you to visit a physical location to play it. That said, if you have never tried an escape room experience, we highly recommend you to do so since they turn out to be incredibly fun. If you want to check where exactly you will be able to play Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time you can visit the official website of the game and check where is the closest location.
