A spiritual successor to Roots of Insanity, A Way to Be Dead is an asymmetrical 4 vs 1 horror survival game where you can play as any of four survivors in a hospital OR as the deranged Dr. Riley. As a survivor, your goal is simply to survive and escape. As Dr. Riley, you aim to kill all the survivors before they can escape. The environment works against all of you, with zombies attacking all players indiscriminately.

Survivor Types. Work together with other survivors to locate the key hidden somewhere around the level. You can carry only one item each, so you will need to communicate and cooperate adequately. To prevent being detected, you need to avoid objects and areas that create noise. Each time you win a round, you gain Therapy points that you can use to improve your character's skills. If you die, you can become a zombie and be the wild card, chasing survivors and the maniac doctor alike.

The Doctor is In. As Dr. Riley, hunt down and kill all the survivors. You can lay an ambush on critical points around the map. You can also terrify survivors by mutating into a demonic creature and chasing them down.

The game lets you customize each match, modifying parameters like the time before the lights go off, the number of zombies, the amount of loot, and so on. If you're ready to experience the terror of being chased by a mad doctor through a zombie-infested hospital, you'll love A Way to Be Dead.
