Join Samus Aran as she faces her most desperate battle yet in Metroid Dread. True to its roots as a Metroid game, Dread is a side-scrolling action game where Samus can run, slide, climb, and shoot. The new gameplay element, however, is stealth. This time, Samus must sneak her way past the nearly indestructible robotic enemies she encounters--once she is spotted, she has only one chance to counter the robots before she is killed.
Set after Metroid Fusion, the game begins with news that the deadly X parasites from the previous game still survive on the planet ZDR. The Galactic Federation sends out specialized EMMI robots to investigate, only for them to suddenly cut all communication. The intrepid Samus decides to take on the contract and investigate planet ZDR. Once there, things take a turn for the worse when she encounters--and is quickly defeated by-- a mysterious warrior wearing Chozo battle armor. Samus wakes up without most of her powers, stranded in a hostile environment and far from help beneath the planet’s surface. The investigation has turned into a desperate struggle for survival.
As you wander through the ZDR labyrinth, you’ll encounter hostile EMMI robots. You don’t know what turned them against you, but you know they’re quick to hunt you and are almost impossible to kill. To fight them, you will have to draw energy from any nearby power sources in order to fire a blast from your arm cannon. But before you gain the ability to defeat the EMMI, you will have to evade and stealth past them. If they manage to catch you, you only have one chance to counter, or it’s game over.
Over time, you gain new abilities, including the classic morphball upgrade. You can also return to previous areas to reach new places and find secrets. You’ll need to use all your wits and skill to evade and fight the combined threat of the EMMI and the X parasites, as well as discover the secret of the Chozon warrior. Metroid Dread will teach you the meaning of fear.
