The creators of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 take a different approach to Games Workshop's tabletop miniature games and focus on the dystopian and violent universe of Warhammer 40,000 for their new game. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a first-person shooter that follows the adventures of a group of agents of the Inquisition in the depths of the hive city of Tertium. The Admonition, a cult formed by traitors to the Empire is spreading its heretical influence through the city and it aims to corrupt the whole planet, turning it into a nightmarish place under the influence of the Chaos Gods. Your mission is to purge this corruption and burn its roots, preventing it to spread any further. With several agents to choose from, Darktide offers you cooperative gameplay for up to four players in an epic battle against darkness. You can also customize your starting skills and choose your equipment and weapons to adjust them to your preferred playstyle.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide features a class system similar to its predecessor's, with several archetypes to choose from. Each of these archetypes, including Zealot, Veteran, Psyker, and Ogryn has a unique playstyle but you can further customize them with a variety of specializations that give you access to skills. The Zealot: Preacher, for example, is a fanatic and holy warrior that serves the Emperor with unyielding faith. Specializing in combat at close quarters and with skills that make them holy berserkers of sorts, these fierce warriors deal more damage the lower their health is, allowing for a high-risk gameplay style. Four archetype/specialization combos are available at launch in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide with more coming later.
The game pits you against an impressive range of challenges that you can face alone or with your friends in co-op mode. You will have to adjust your weapons useage and strategies if you want to come up victorious.
Pray to the Emperor-God and delve into the depths of Tertium to discover what's the origin of the corruption that afflicts the place. Purge whatever threats you may find with fire and steel and get ready for nasty surprises.
