Signs of the Sojourner is a narrative deck-building game about connecting and communicating with others. Your mother passed away and you take over her store. Set in a near-future earth-like world, you will travel to distant locations to get the goods you need for your shop. The world is formed by isolated communities that have harsh wastelands between them, so it is not easy to acquire the goods you need.
Your deck is your character and the cards are your experiences and relationships. Different decks have different outcomes, so the game is more about making decisions to have the life you want and less about having the most powerful deck. Cards like "chatter", "observe" and "accommodate" shape the conversations with the people you encounter. But the longer you are away from home traveling to find goods, the more "fatigue" cards will appear in your deck, taking up valuable slots in your inventory.
When you talk to someone, you exchange cards back and forth. Cards come with symbols and you have to keep the chain going. Agreeing with them boosts your buffer of shields while disagreeing will make you leave frustrated. Conversations will also make you change your deck to adapt from the selection you have at your disposal. If you fail, the NPC will walk away.
