Need for Speed Heat is the first entry in the racing franchise since Need for Speed Payback in 2017. Race thru Palm City, an open world inspired by iconic landmarks along the US eastern seaboard: the sweeping Georgia mountains, the sun-kissed streets of Miami.
Need for Speed Heat focuses on giving you the opportunity to drive around during the day and the night. Sanctioned events are organized and run during the hours of sunlight, letting you perfect those racing lines and rank up in the leaderboard, driving in closed courses. Illegal activities start after sunset. To be the best means to mix both and gain on Rep, your player level. You can only increase Rep through night time events. Doing so unlocks more car parts, which will upgrade your ride. But you have to buy the parts first; that’s where Bank, the in-game currency, comes in. And you can only earn Bank completing daytime events.
You can switch from day to night at any time, but you can’t leave the latter until you’ve made it back to one of the safe houses dotted around the map. Now, there is also the Heat factor, which is a score multiplier tied to Rep, active at night only. It increases the more illegal stunts you perform, but there’s a catch. The higher the Heat, the more aggressive the cops get. To cash in you have to make it to a safe house to cash in the multiplier, before the cops on your tail catch you, as they will not stop at the finish line and will continue their pursuit even after you finish your illegal race.
Cops will follow the player with the most Heat, so if you get close to another player with more Heat during multiplayer, they will shift the attention onto them. The multiplayer gameplay supports servers for up to 16 players. You’re free to invite racers you meet to free-roam through the map or to events, keep them NPC-only, or form a party with friends and tackle activities together. Keep your multiplayer Palm City open to all, especially at night, because unlike day, events aren’t separated into a private server. You never know when some other player will join your race and take those pesky cops off your tail!
