Gameplay
Ape Out is an action game that is played on a top-down perspective in a similar way to Hotline Miami. You navigate through different stages trying to escape from the zoo where you are trapped in, and the difficulty of your progress increases as you advance through the levels. You can grab the guards and crush them with your immense strength or hold them to use them as shields against weapons. The enemies and objects are depicted as monochromatic silhouettes creating an atmosphere of fear and mystery. Clangs of cymbal rings come out when you kill human enemies, and as you defeat more of them, a spreading jazz session floods your ears. Before you know it, you have a full-length musical right then and there.
